Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs are people who have come alive.
Who are we?
One evening, while doing what they do, Dijon was struck by a thought—
D: Ya know, I would say you’re ketchup and I’m mustard…
H: It’s true! I’m the sweet one, you’re the tangy one.
D: But sometimes you’re surprisingly tangy…
H: And sometimes you’re surprisingly sweet…like Grey Poupon!
While we really have no idea what Grey Poupon tastes like, or why this conversation stuck in our minds, it has now become our biggest inside joke.
Trusting in each other as best friends should, we wrote each other’s descriptions:
Heinz is a 24 year old woman from central IL. When she’s not causing trouble with Dijon, she divides her time between her boyfriend and playing the Wii. Occasionally she gets drunk – this often leads to crying while playing Rock Band or trying to shove entire pancakes in Dijon’s mouth. She enjoys reading, football, watching movies, and Spoons.
Dijon is a 23 year old woman from Northern IL. She is an old soul who takes a no BS approach to life, and is destined to someday change, if not own and dominate, the world. When she takes a break from world domination, Dijon can usually be found at Heinz’ apartment playing Wii Tennis or Guitar Hero, surfing the bargain movie bins at Wal-Mart, stealing people’s pancakes, or out and about at the dive bars of central IL, wreaking havoc in the most fun way possible.
Why are we doing this?
Heinz: I think that we will make this blog a success just by sheer determination to carry out the things on the list. For me at least, I’m a list maker in general, and it sincerely irks me to have unfinished items. It’s like starting a book; once you start it, no matter how awful it is, you have to finish it. Aside from that, when I’m older, I want to be able to look back on my life, and tell my children that I’ve done many of the things that I wanted to do, in the hopes that it will encourage them to follow in my steps. You know, lead/teach by example.
Dijon: I love being busy, but I’m rarely motivated to be busy outside of work when I don’t have to be. I think this is not only going to push me to certain limits (like werewolf highway…eeps!!!) but it’s going to teach me to better self-motivate. Not to mention, there are a ton of benefits to be gained simply by completing some of the tasks (like being able to run a mile in under 10 min).
Heinz: Really, I just wanted to give myself homework each week.
Dijon: Right, because we were so good at doing homework when we were actually in school…
In all seriousness, we’re looking to inspire people. Making a list can take as long or as short of a time as you’d like – it’s simply making the list that’s important. Life should be filled with adventure. You should have so many memorable moments that you’re overwhelmed when you stop to think of the years passed. If you don’t wake up with something to look forward to each day, you’re living an unlived life. So start that list and come alive today!
